Your studio portrait session

Our portrait studio is fitted with the latest professional lighting equipment. It is a suitable environment for family groups, couples, children, maternity and newborns and for commercial portraits.

Timing is key for childrens portraiture.

Schedule your portrait session during your child’s upbeat time of day, after naps and feedings, so that he or she can enjoy the experience. In our experience, this is usually earlier in the day but of course, every child is different.

Connie’s Cake Smash

It is a good idea to arrive 10-15 minutes before your session. Time to unwind, have a cup of our tea or coffee and we can take a look at your clothing and prop options have a chat and get to fully understand your expectations

What to wear – accentuate the positive.

    • Keep it simple. Solid colours are best for portraits. Avoid bold patterns, bright colours and logos which will draw the attention away from your face
    • Cover up arms. Long sleeves draw attention away from your arms and helps bring the focus to your face.
    • Darker clothing has a slimming effect. Light tones tend to emphasise body size.
    • Scoops or v-necks flatter shorter necks and full faces. High-necked garments flatter longer necks and slender faces.
    • Keep clothing consistent. Dress everyone in the same style. Don’t mix casual and formal clothing in portraits.

Coordinate your colours for your portrait.

  • Dark clothing looks best against darker backgrounds and creates a quiet relaxed mood in portraits.
  • Light pastel or white clothing looks best against a light-coloured or white portrait background.
  • Try to avoid mixing light and dark colours in your portraits.
  • If you are coming in for a Photo Noir portrait dark or black tops will be order of the day

We are here to help so please contact us before hand if you have any questions and if in doubt, bring in plenty of options for us to look at. We have changing facilities.

Props

You can bring along props. Anything unique to the sitter, such as musical instruments, hats and sporting gear will help tell their story. Your portrait session is all about you and your family and how unique you are‚ props are a great way to personalise your portrait.

Pets

We understand that pets are part of the family (we have a menagerie of our own). We would love you to bring your pet along for your photo shoot.

After the shoot.

After your portrait session, your images are edited and processed to bring out the best in your portraits. Around 10-14 days after the session, you’ll be invited back to the studio to view your images and choose the portraits that you like. We can also look at the various ways of showing off your photographs, such as contemporary frames and mini albums. There’s no pressure to buy – just a great selection of stylish products at reasonable prices.

Please refer to the portrait pricing page for information about our very reasonably priced mounted prints and for details of other products.
