Your Cotswold meadow portrait session

The meadow portrait session captures those moments in our families lives we never want to lose.

The session take place here in our very own wild flower meadow here in Childswickham. It has been planted with swaying grasses and wild flower patches the meadow bursts forth in May and carries on right through to the autumn. Rustic props, five barred gates and winding paths, creates a superb environment for children who relax and enjoy the unfettered freedom of the great outdoors.
Casual and relaxed clothing is the order of the day, jeans, t shirts and trainers are the best. And don’t worry if the ground is damp or the sun isn’t shining. We can all pull on welly’s and now we will let you into a little secret – cloudy dull skies creates beautiful and flattering lighting for portraits. In fact, all of our award winning portraits and wedding photographs were taken in dull weather. Sometimes we will use our portable lighting to introduce a little sunshine should we feel it is necessary for the overall look of the portrait.

Clothing advice for your meadow portraits.

The aim of any good portrait is to direct the viewer’s attention to the face or faces in the portrait. Simple long sleeved garments in medium to dark tones of brown, rust, burgundy, green, or blue are pleasing choices when photographed against an outdoor background.

For children, casual and relaxed clothing is the order of the day, jeans, t shirts and trainers are ideal for adventures in the meadow in woods, on the beach and country trails.

  • Avoid distracting logo’s and pictures on children’s t shirts
  • Bold stripes, plaids, checks and prints are confusing and do not photograph well.
  • Especially bright colors, such as red and orange can completely overpower the face.
  • For out door portraits, mid tone shades, brown, rust, burgundy, green, or blue are more flattering and slimming.
  • Avoid light colors that approximate flesh tones such as peach, beige, tan, and pink. They can make the subject appear unusually washed out, and add bulk to the subject.
  • If you don’t want your arms to be obvious, then long sleeves are essential, particularly for adults, as bare arms call attention to themselves
  • Couples or small groups should choose simple garments within the same tonal ranges.
